FAQ
Is there a fee?
We typically request a donation of around $75-$100 towards our ASB account for the costs of the season
Who is the Coach?
Coach Mukai is heading into her third year running the 7/8 Girls Lacrosse program at LCHS. The 2017 season had a record turn out and we are excited to see what this year has in store.
What season is lacrosse?
Traditionally, lacrosse is a spring sport. However we run LC 7/8 during the Fall to be able to offer the highest quality coaching available.
Are there cuts?
It depends. We will never cut someone because they are "bad" at lacrosse. EVERYONE is bad at lacrosse the first year or two. You can't control how much lacrosse experience you have. What you can control is the type of teammate and athlete you are. The only reason someone would be cut, is if they don't show the character traits that we expect of everyone in the program.
Attitude: Are you approaching drills and teammates positively?
Effort: Are you trying hard?
Discipline: Do you stick to the right way or the easy way?
How often do you practice?
We practice 2-3 times a week throughout the fall.
Do I need my own equipment?
No. We have plenty of lacrosse equipment available to borrow. If you're committed to improving and you like the sport, we highly recommend purchasing your own. See here for what to buy.
Do you play games?
We have a limited number of opponents in the area but we are working on adding more games every year. Last year we had two scrimmages and the goal is 6 this year!
What if I play another sport that conflicts with practice?
We are doing everything we can to promote multi-sport athletes. As long as you can make roughly one practice per week, we encourage you to play other sports.
What's the difference between girls and boys lacrosse?
Girls vs Boys lacrosse is kind of like softball vs baseball only the differences are even more extreme. Girls' lacrosse is actually considered a non contact sport.
Is Lacrosse dangerous?
Any sport has a risk of injury. Lacrosse is not any more dangerous than any other sport.
Is lacrosse hard to play?
Everyone is bad at lacrosse when they first pick up a stick. This is the hardest part to deal with initially. However, if you work through the challenge of trying something new, you'll actually find that lacrosse is a very easy sport. The fundamental movements seem really tricky because you've never done anything like them before. Once they become second nature through practice, you begin to get really good really, really fast.
What are you looking for at tryouts?
We're looking more at how you learn and approach the sport vs. overall skill. Athleticism is important as well. There will be a run test.
How is the program structured?
This year we will have one team, however practices will be often be split to accommodate various experience levels and pace.
